In this life we're stuck to live
I would thank you if you could give
Me something nobody did
Something I desperately need
I see those bitches dance all night
And those blokes always looking out for a fight
What they won't realise

Is what I just recognized since we've met

The river that's parted us
Is that stupid tide
That we're swimming against

Those ideals we want to hold up
Are sometimes less than we wish we'd got
It's not clothes you wear
Not the cut of your hair
But the willingness to give it all up
Satisfactory moments seem to start
To fade away within an ageing heart
What I didn't realise
